Artist Statement
I have always been interested in art, but I never knew which type I would enjoy most. Watching Robin Williams in one of the most beautiful movies I’ve ever seen, What Dreams May Come, sparked my desire to start painting. That inspired me to start painting scenes of beautiful places and stunning creatures. I imagined climbing into my paintings and jumping into the world inside of them, to feel the peace and enjoy the wonder. I began painting 25 years ago, not knowing that one day the greatest joy that came from learning how to paint was having the opportunity to volunteer, teaching painting to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Seeing the happiness on their faces after completing a painting is priceless. One of the best things about painting is that there’s always more to learn. No matter how much you think you know, new techniques or ideas keep coming. It could take many lifetimes to master it all. I am thankful for all the artists whose creativity and unique styles make the world a more beautiful place to live.
